Raja’s Restaurant is located at the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa and offers authentic Balinese cuisine in a royal setting. The restaurant has earned numerous awards including the Hospitality Asia Platinum Award’s (HAPA) Gastronomic Experience, the Asia Cuisine during the HAPA 2008–2010 Regional Series and it is the only certified halal Balinese restaurant on the island. The dining area is divided into two sections; a fully air conditioned indoor area and open-air wooden pavilion. The restaurant presents an exotic air of splendid Balinese grandeur without losing any of its intended elegance.
The menu here is comprehensive in its range of Balinese dishes with the latest addition of tapas available in a variety of choice. Each of these is enticingly presented on a small plate. My favourites were the grilled duck leg, twelve hour braised beef cheek, prawn sate, glutinous rice and pan-fried snapper with sambal matah. The restaurant’s chef maintains authentic flavour and immaculate presentation with all the dishes on offer at Raja’s.
Raja’s signature dish is either duck or chicken betutu. This is a whole duck or chicken that has been marinated in 16 different spices, wrapped in palm leaves and then slow cooked for four hours. The betutu is a dish not to be missed.
Another highly recommended dish here is the delicious ulam kambing mepanggang; grilled lamb cutlets served with a local curry sauce and Balinese vegetables.
Dessert of course is here in authentic form and range including pandanus leaf pancakes with jackfruit, fresh tropical fruit, a choice of 6 types of exotic ice cream and more.
