KALA Uluwatu, the latest addition to the vibrant Bukit culinary scene, officially opened in June 2024. Just a short walk from Padang-Padang Beach, this restaurant offers stylish dining experience inspired by Greece and the Mediterranean with a minimalistic design and a welcoming atmosphere. KALA boasts a carefully curated food menu paired with speakeasy-grade cocktails and a selection of classic and natural wines.
KALA’s menu showcases Greek and Mediterranean inspired dishes cooked on an open wood fire grill. The restaurant prioritizes the finest local produce, fresh seafood, and imported meats, bringing the best of both worlds to each plate. Chef Zarrukh Farkhodovich, with over 12 years of experience in fine dining and a background working in top Michelin-starred kitchens, leads the culinary team.
Diners can start their meal with freshly baked bread and meze dips; tuna carpaccio; and lamb kofta seasoned with za’atar and fennel accompanied by refreshing tzatziki. The menu also features rich dolmadakia stuffed with minced beef and lamb, wrapped in grape leaves; spanakopita spirals filled with spinach and feta in a flaky pastry; sizzling halloumi tiropita with honey and cinnamon; and a fresh Greek salad.
Main course highlights include succulent lamb shoulder slow-cooked with chickpeas and tomatoes; grilled octopus with baby potatoes and peperonata sauce; a dedicated souvlaki section with grilled skewers like chicken with flatbread, tzatziki, and chimichurri. For desserts, the must-try options are loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) with ice cream, or the decadent baklava cheesecake.
The restaurant’s interior reflects a minimalist, natural aesthetic, characterized by wooden tables, rattan chairs, and an open, airy layout. Staying true to KALA’s commitment to sustainability, the dinnerware is an eco-conscious collaboration between Kevala and designer Sara Howard, crafted from repurposed industrial byproducts.
When in Bali and searching for a fresh dining experience, KALA is a great spot. The service is friendly and very attentive. During our time there, we had the opportunity to try the Baklava Espresso Martini, an innovative drink not yet featured on the menu. This unique cocktail elevates the classic espresso martini with a layer of baklava foam and a sprinkle of pistachio, creating a delightful twist.
KALA Uluwatu offers a distinct and immersive dining experience, blending Greek and Mediterranean flavors with the relaxed charm of Bali. Whether you’re savoring a delicious meal or sipping on a cocktail, KALA promises a “GOOD TIME” in every sense.
