This volcano is famous for its three striking summit crater lakes each containing their own distinct colours of red, blue and green water. The reason for this strange coloration is not precisely known but it is thought that various gases reacting with different minerals are the main cause. The scenic panorama of the said lake is what makes Kelimutu a noteworthy hiking destination.
